Exelis wins contract work on British military radios

General Dynamics UK has given Exelis two contracts in support of a British Ministry of Defense program to modernize and sustain tactical radios used by British troops.

BASINGSTOKE, England, May 23 (UPI) -- Exelis is to support work by General Dynamics UK in modernization and other services in modernizing British military's tactical radios.

Work will be performed under two contracts from General Dynamics UK. The first The first award is a five-year contract to provide post-engineering design services for VHF and UHF radios manufactured by Exelis for the U.K. Bowman team. Exelis was the manufacturer of those radios as part of the General Dynamics U.K.-led Bowman program.

The first contract is a five-year award for post-engineering design services for VHF and UHF radios that were manufactured by Exelis as part of a General Dynamics Bowman team.

The second is for logistics, supply and support of fielded Bowman tactical radios. It is for five years and includes replacement and repair of the equipment.

"The work Exelis will do under these contracts will ensure that the Ministry of Defense's current tactical radio fleet is fully supported through the transition to the next generation of modern tactical radios for U.K. forces," said Chris Reith, the managing director of Exelis Defense Limited in Basingstoke, Hampshire.
