Saab expanding its naval business

LINKOPING, Sweden, March 12 (UPI) -- Saab, the Swedish defense and security company, says it's expanding its naval business and recruiting employees for the sector.

The company already is a leading player in the naval business area and provides equipment and services to the Swedish Navy. It also is a contractor to the Thai Navy and is responsible for development, integration and support of the combat management systems on Australia's ANZAC-class frigates.

Saab also provides the integrated ship control management and monitoring systems for Norway's Ula-class submarines and Australia's Collins-class submarines. The firm is delivering electronic warfare systems for submarines in several countries and was recently contracted for autonomous anti-submarine warfare targets.

"Saab is today a leading provider of naval systems, and this initiative will enable Saab to strengthen and develop its naval capabilities," says Gunilla Fransson, senior vice president and head of Security and Defense Solutions.

Saab's Security and Defense Solutions division will continue to handle the company's naval business.

Additional details of the planned expansion were not provided.
