PARIS, March 5 (UPI) -- Navigation and pointing systems for Caesar 155mm guns are being supplied to an unidentified Asian country by Sagem of France.
The order, issued by manufacturer Nexter Systems, is for 37 Sigma 30 navigation and pointing systems, which give long-range artillery systems immediate, high-precision firing capability.
Sagem said the Sigma 30 system, which is mounted on the cannon, features large digital ring laser gyro technology and offers independent operation that is protected from enemy counter-measures.
"The contract announced today consolidates Sagem's partnership with Nexter Systems for the Caesar gun, by bringing the advantages of latest-generation inertial (navigation) systems to the company's entire range of combat vehicles, whether in production or under development," Sagem said. "All Caesar artillery systems now in service, more than 250 units, are equipped with the Sigma 30 navigation and pointing system."
The Caesar is a self-propelled weapon.
Sagem's Sigma 30 system is compatible with other artillery systems, including the PzH2000 by Krauss Maffei Wegmann and the MLRS M270 made by Airbus Defense.
Details as to the monetary value of the order were not disclosed.
