ORNSKOLDSVIK, Sweden, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- The first of more than 100 upgraded armored vehicle variants from BAE Systems in Sweden has been delivered to the Norwegian military.
The CV90 vehicle, which runs on rubber tracks, features enhanced protection, survivability, situational awareness and interoperability compared with earlier models and incorporates lessons learned from Norwegian, Swedish and Danish military operations in Afghanistan with the CV90.
"The complex but highly cost-effective Norwegian upgrade program is running on time and to budget," said Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, president of BAE Systems Hagglunds AB. "Norway's vehicles will be the most advanced CV90s yet -- and benefit from more than four million engineering hours."
Norway contracted BAE Systems in 2012 for a fully digitized fleet of 74 CV90 infantry fighting vehicles. Also ordered were 21 reconnaissance variants, 15 command variants, 16 engineering variants, 16 multi-role models and two driver training vehicles.
Local partners in the acquisition program include Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace, which leads a team of Thales Norway and Vinghog and is responsible for the integrated data and information system on the vehicles.
