Rockwell Collins to update S. Korean aircraft systems

SINGAPORE, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- U.S. aviation company Rockwell Collins said Tuesday it was selected to update the onboard systems for the P-3C patrol aircraft for the South Korean navy.

Rockwell Collins said it was selected to upgrade the onboard avionic systems for eight P3-C patrol aircraft. The work is covered under a contract for the Korean navy under a program with L-3 Mission Integration.

Troy Brunk, general manager for airborne programs at Rockwell Collins, said in a statement the program would help ensure a legacy of success for Korean naval operations.

"[South Korean navy] pilots will experience greater situational awareness and communications capabilities with the highly advanced avionics on board these aircraft," he said in a statement Tuesday from Singapore.

The so-called Flight2 avionics system includes upgrades to the surveillance systems on the P-3C as well as the primary flight displays and flight management systems.
