Babcock supplying electronic support measures to Royal Navy

LONDON, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Off-the-shelf electronic support measures are to be provided to Britain's Royal Navy by Babcock International under a contract from the Ministry of Defense.

The counter-measures will enhance the electronic surveillance capability of the Navy's Type 23 frigates.

"We are delighted to have been awarded this contract and will be providing the MOD with a high technology readiness, low-risk solution, offering maximum value for money," said Babcock Integrated System and Support Group Director Charles John.

Under the seven-year contract, Babcock and principle sub-contractor Argon ST, will supply its Hammerhead communications electronic support measure, which provides surveillance capability that supports tactical indicators and warnings and other tasked requirements.

The system, in a modular block design, will be delivered at the Navy's required technology readiness level, which means no further development work on the system will be needed and that it can be deployed quickly.

The monetary value of the work, as well as the number of units to be delivered, was not disclosed.
