Renault unveils new tactical command vehicle

VILLEPINTE, France, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Renault Trucks Defense and Thales have unveiled a new version of the MIDS tactical command post vehicle for use in public order and internal security missions.

The 4x4 or 4x2 armored vehicle, which can carry as many as 12 people, features a suite of communications and command systems, including satellite communications for real-time, centralized communications. It also has three workstations, incorporates perimeter video-surveillance sub-systems, a miniature unmanned aerial vehicle and an observation camera.

Armament includes 5.56 and 7.62mm weapon systems and a smoke grenade launcher.

"The vehicle is very mobile and well protected, allowing the crew to monitor an event and/or crisis continuously in complete safety," Renault Trucks Defense said. "The Battlenet Inside network seamlessly integrates all the systems to bring real-time on-screen information to the vehicle's driver and commander."

Renault said the vehicle's armoring provides protection from 7.62mm ammunition.

Renault Defense Trucks and Thales presented the modernized truck at the Milipol exhibition in Paris.
