MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A $21 million U.S. military task order has been given to Alion Science and Technology to help speed up development of armament systems and ammunition.
The task order is specifically for support of the U.S. Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center, the Army's principal researcher, developer and sustainer of current and future armament and munitions systems.
The task order calls on Alion to evaluate a wide range of armament systems, munitions, ancillary equipment and enabling technologies during design, development and production phases of the engineering life-cycle. Projects will include systems to neutralize improvised explosive devices and development of green (environmentally friendly) ammunition.
"Threats to our warfighters are constantly evolving, so staying ahead of that trend is crucial to giving warfighters the means to achieve their missions while increasing their survivability," said Chris Amos, senior vice president and manager of Alion's Technology Solutions Group. "Alion's strengths in engineering and weapon systems analysis and development mean we can help the Army enhance their ability to deploy the latest technologies faster and more efficiently."
The task order was issued under the Defense Technical Information Center's Weapon Systems Technology Information Analysis Center contract. It expires in the middle of May 2015.
