Defense Logistics Agency honors suppliers

FORT BELVOIR, Va., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Logistics Agency has honored 34 companies, customers and individuals for outstanding effort to provide supplies and services to the military.

The companies who received awards earlier this week during a Business Alliance Award ceremony were mainly small, small disadvantaged, women-owned, and service-disabled veteran-owned concerns.

The honors were in 11 categories plus a category for expedient and outstanding support during military operations conducted in support of Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

In the vendor excellence category for superior product quality, on-time delivery and superior customer service, the honorees were Pacific Coast Fruit Co., Portland, Ore.; Octo Consulting Group, McLean, Va.; Building Solutions Inc., Reno, Nev.; TK&K Services LLC, Alpharetta, Ga.; and Tradebe Treatment and Recycling LLC of East Chicago, Ind.

Military Battery Systems Inc. of Golden, Colo., and Sage Energy Trading LLC of Jenks, Okla., as well as Open Text Public Sector Solutions of Arlington, Va., received honors for innovative business practices.

Other small and large companies recognized in categories such as readiness support, cost-savings, acquisition, professional services and others included: Carolina Linkages, doing business as Safe Ports, North Charleston, S.C.; Xact Tool Inc., Shell Lake, Wis.; FN Manufacturing, Columbia, S.C.; Arizona Industries for the Blind, Phoenix, Ariz.; DePaul Industries, Portland, Ore.; Aqua-Chem, Knoxville, Tenn.; Washington Gas Energy Services Inc., Herndon, Va.; Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, N.H. ; and General Electric Corp., Lynn, Mass.

DLA said Marsena Covington of Eaton Corp. Aerospace Group, of Irvine, Calif., was honored for her dedication and commitment to the DLA mission and its effect on the quality of life for U.S. military personnel.

Specifically honored for providing emergency products and services in support of DLA's relief efforts to assist other federal and state agencies last year after Hurricane Sandy were: Foster Fuels, Brookneal, Va.; Hess Corp., New York, N.Y.; Titan Maritime LLC, Pomano Beach, Fla.; Foss Maritime, Seattle, Wash.; SAIC, Fairfield, N.J.; Supply Core, Rockford, Ill.; ADS, Virginia Beach, Va.; Caterpillar, Mossville, Ill.; Pocono Produce Co., doing business as Pocono Pro Foods, Stroudsburg, Pa.; SOPAKCO Inc., Mullins, S.C.; Marine Environmental Services LLC, Forked River, N.J.; Capt. Phil Belico, captain of Huber Bay, Marine Environmental Services LLC, Forked River, N.J.; American Environmental Services, Sewickley, Pa.; and Clean Venture Inc., Elizabeth, N.J.
