Austria orders Survey Copter's UAS

ELANCOURT, France, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Small unmanned aerial systems from Survey Copter of France have been ordered by Austria's Ministry of Defense, the company announced.

The order is for six Tracker mini unmanned systems, which is comprised of 18 aircraft and additional systems. Additional mini-UAS will be ordered in 2016 and 2017.

"We are very proud to have been selected to introduce mini unmanned air systems with the Austrian forces, a further mark of Cassidian and Survey Copter European credibility and leadership in this particularly fast-growing sector" said Jean-Marc Masenelli, Managing Director of Survey Copter.

Survey Copter is a subsidiary of Cassidian SAS.

The Tracker is a hand-launched system for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions and was developed with the Kapsch Group, a Vienna, Austria, company. Once launched, it follows a pre-programmed but reconfigurable flight plan.

The system's features include visible-light and infra-red high-resolution cameras integrated in a three-axis gyro-stabilized plug and sensor turret developed by Survey Copter.

The value of the contract was not given.
