Australia grants highest certification to CAE simulator

BRISBANE, Australia, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- The Australian Defense Force Airworthiness Authority has given CAE's KC-30A full-flight and mission simulator its highest qualification for flight simulators.

CAE Australia, a subsidiary of Canada's CAE, said the Level D certification is the first of that level ever given to an A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport simulator.

"Aerial refueling is a complex, challenging and sometimes dangerous operation so we need the highest fidelity training systems to prepare our aircrews for mission success," said Ewan Ward, The Defense Materiel Organization's director for the Project Air 5402 - Air to Air Refueling. "Our new KC-30A full mission simulator, combined with the full suite of KC-30A training devices, will play a key role in cost-effectively training our tanker aircrews to accomplish a range of refueling missions."

The Royal Australian Air Force's KC-30A training system was designed and developed by CAE under sub-contract from Airbus Military.

Under a management and support contract from the Australian military, CAE Australia manages and maintains a KC-30A training systems and training facility at an RAAF base.
