TROY, Mich., Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Independent suspension axle systems for armored security vehicles have been ordered from AxleTech International by Textron Marine & Land Systems.

The independent suspension axle systems ordered from AxelTech, a subsidiary of General Dynamics, are its 4000 and 5000 series. Vehicle-maker Textron will use the suspensions on tactical armored patrol vehicles being manufactured for Canada and for armored vehicles for the Afghan National Army.

"Our state-of-the-art independent suspension system will provide best-in-class mobility for the TAPV program, especially in rugged terrain," said H.A. (Graz) Graziano, vice president and general manager of AxleTech International. "We are pleased to continue our work with Textron Marine & Land Systems to provide field-proven axles, spares and other support for these important programs."

The number of suspension sets to be produced under two contracts – worth a combined total of $25 million – was not disclosed.

AxleTech independent suspensions are used on M1117 Armored Security Vehicles and M1200 Armored Knight military vehicles, made by Textron Marine and Land Systems and deployed by the U.S. military.
