Northrop subsidiary buying Qantas Defense Services

FALLS CHURCH, Va., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman Australia Pty Limited is buying the defense logistics, sustainment and modernization business of Qantas Airways Limited.

Terms of the transaction, which is subject to regulatory approval, to acquire Qantas Defense Services Pty Limited, have not been disclosed.

The deal is expected to close next year

"QDS complements our current integrated logistics and modernization efforts and advances our international strategy," said Wes Bush, Northrop Grumman chairman, chief executive officer and president. "We expect QDS will provide an important platform for international growth in our key focus areas of unmanned, C4ISR, cyber, and logistics and modernization."

"Northrop Grumman's in-country revenue and footprint are significantly enhanced by the QDS acquisition, underscoring our commitment to the Australian and regional defense markets," said Ian Irving, Northrop Grumman chief executive for Australia.

Qantas Defense Services provides through-life support for the Royal Australian Air Force's tanker/transport fleet, and engine overhaul services for the country's Orion P-3 maritime patrol aircraft and Hawk fighter. QDS also provides engineering consultancy services to the Royal Australian Navy and has been contracted by Indonesia to refurbish C-130H aircraft.
