ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., July 17 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman has received a $173 million military logistics contract for support of the LITENING Targeting System used by U.S. and allied aircraft.
The contract for support and sustainment is a performance-based vehicle with a performance period of five years.
"This award continues our 15-year partnership with the Department of Defense in supporting the warfighters who rely on the LITENING system," said Jim Mocarski, vice president of airborne tactical sensors at Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems. "Through this partnership, LITENING has achieved greater than 97 percent availability and more than 650,000 combat flight hours, so warfighters know it will be ready for any mission."
The AN/AAQ-28(V) LITENING is a forward-looking infrared, charged-coupled device, with laser imaging sensors, advanced image processing and digital video output. It enables aircrew to identify and engage targets in all weather conditions.
Under the contract, Northrop will provide support services to the targeting systems operated by The U.S. Air Force's Air Combat Command, Air Force Reserves, Air National Guard, Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserves.
Services include technical support, training of aircrew and maintenance personnel, performance of depot repairs and other support requirements.
