Northrop engineering services for LCS mission package

BETHPAGE, N.Y., June 25 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy picked Northrop Grumman for engineering and production planning services for surface warfare and mine counter-measures mission module components.

The mission package will be used by littoral combat ships.

The contract is worth $28 million.

"As the mission package integrator, Northrop Grumman continues to demonstrate its ability to provide the Navy with fully integrated mission modules that fit seamlessly with the sea frames," said Doug Shaffer, director of information operations and electronic attack at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems. "Northrop Grumman is committed to delivering a quality product to our Navy customer that ensures successful fleet introduction."

Northrop said each mission package has a specific set of sub-systems -- such as data processing equipment, vehicles and sensors -- that operate in a combination of air, surface and sub-surface domains. The capabilities are zeroed in on mine counter-measures, littoral anti-submarine warfare or littoral surface warfare operations.

Two surface warfare mission modules have been delivered to the Navy so far and will soon complete delivery of its first mine counter-measures mission module.
