Sagem integrates COMINT system on drone

PARIS, June 18 (UPI) -- Sagem of France reports it has integrated and tested its communications intelligence system on its Patroller drone.

The COMINT system, which was attached to an underwing pod on the aircraft, provides interception and technical analysis of V/UHF communications, including those from frequency-hopping transmitters.

Seven tests were conducted to validate the system's capability to direct the Patroller's optronic sensors in real time to provide visual target identification and location within large zones of interest, the company said.

Sagem's Patroller drone is a modular 1-ton class unmanned aerial system that can carry a payload in its bay or in pods. It has an endurance of as much as 30 hours and an altitude ceiling of 25,000 feet.

The COMINT system tests aboard the aircraft follow evaluations last month in which the Patroller was integrated into military air-land exercises and air-naval exercises, the company said.

The Patroller is being displayed this week at the Paris Air Show.
