Eurocopter supplying 135s for Turkey medivac

MARIGNANE, France, May 7 (UPI) -- Eurocopter of France says it has been named preferred provider of aircraft for medical airlift in Turkey.

The company's twin-engine EC135 will be operated by the Turkish Aeronautical Association's THK Gokcen Aviation commercial arm, which with Saran Holdings, won a five-year contract for air ambulance service from the country's Ministry of Health.

"Eurocopter is committed to supporting Turkey in emergency medical services, which constitute one of the most critical uses of a helicopter," said Olivier Lambert, Eurocopter's senior vice president for Sales and Customer Relations. "Therefore, we are proud to be working with THK Gokcen Aviation in demonstrating the direct benefit of our helicopters to the Turkish population."

The medical service begins in August with five EC135s. Another 12 will be added later.

"We are very happy to realize a contract with Eurocopter and to enhance our strategic and fruitful cooperation in the Turkish market," said THK President Osman Yildirim,

The EC135 has a cruising speed of 158 miles per hour and a range of 395 miles. The air ambulance variant can carry two patients.
