Elbit delivers UAV

HAIFA, Israel, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- A Hermes 900 unmanned aerial vehicle has been delivered to an unidentified country in the Americas by Elbit Systems Ltd. of Israel.

In addition to the aircraft itself, the delivery included universal ground control stations, which were installed in a mission control center, and advanced electro-optic systems.

Earlier this month the Brazilian Ministry of Defense announced its air force was assembling two Hermes 900s but it wasn't clear if Elbit's new report is related.

The Hermes 900 is a medium-sized, multi-payload aircraft with a flight endurance of more than 30 hours. It has a cruise speed of 70 miles per hour and a ceiling 30,000 feet.

Elbit Systems said it is increasing production of the UAV to meet international demand.

The Israeli military gave Elbit a contract to supply it with "a wide range" of Hermes aircraft. At the end of last month, it gave Elbit a $35 million award to develop advanced features for UAVs, including quick re-configuration of payloads.
