BINGEN, Wash., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Insitu Inc. is continuing its ScanEagle UAS intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance services for the U.S. military.
The services of Insitu's mid-endurance unmanned aerial system are worth as much as $190 million and will be provided to the U.S. Special Operations Command through the end of February 2015.
Covered under the contract are introduction of unspecified technologies by Insitu's to enhance the UAS's capabilities.
"Insitu is honored to continue providing ISR services to the warfighter," said Insitu Senior Vice President of ScanEagle Programs Curt Chesnutt. "For the past 3 1/2 years, we have provided SOCOM agile and responsive and uninterrupted services with our ScanEagle system and we look forward to continuing our valued relationship."
ScanEagle is less than 5 feet in length, has a flight endurance of about 20 hours and uses a portable catapult launcher. It lands using a skyhook system -- a hook on the aircraft is snagged by rope attached to a pole.
Insitu Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Boeing.
