UAE modernizing C-130 avionics

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- The United Arab Emirates has tapped a local firm to conduct modifications on the avionics of six C-130s operated by the country's military.

The company selected is Advanced Military Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Center L.L.C., a joint venture between Mubadala Aerospace, Sikorsky and Lockheed Martin.

Work will involve changing the avionics in the aircraft cockpits from analog systems to digital ones. Work on the six aircraft is to begin this year.

AMMROC said the contract is worth about $42.7 million.

"AMMROC's expertise in maintenance, repair and overhaul makes us the right partner to help transition the UAE's armed forces valuable C-130 aircraft to best serve in the 21st Century," said AMMROC Chief Executive Officer Fahad al-Shamesi.

"Through its many existing contracts with the UAE armed forces, AMMROC looks forward to helping extract value from existing aircraft through providing superior service as the UAE armed forces works to extend the longevity of its fleet."

AMMROC is a member of the UAE's Mubadala group of companies.
