Thales, Renault team for coms systems

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- French companies Renault Trucks Defense and Thales are working to develop digitized vehicle mission systems for real-time communications between vehicles.

The companies, which are working together on digitized vehicle systems for VAB Mk3 armored personnel carrier, announced a broader agreement at the IDEX conference and exhibition in Abu Dhabi.

"The platforms will include fighting vehicles as well as armored security vehicles equipped with a range of weapons, observation systems and communication systems depending on mission requirements," the companies said.

Earlier this year, Renault Trucks Defense launched its Battlenet Inside system, based on electronic architectures developed by Volvo, bringing the benefits of commercial off-the-shelf solutions extensively tested fleets of commercial vehicles.

Now with Thales's VSYS-Net solution, military vehicles will be part of a complete, digitized sphere of engagement -- crews work collaboratively both within their vehicles and with crews in other platforms for real-time communications to support shared situation awareness and cooperative engagements.
