Rheinmetall, Netherlands in new ammo deal

DUSSELDORF, Germany, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Germany's Rheinmetall Group will continue to supply ammunition to the armed forces of the Netherlands under a new seven-year agreement.

The ammunition will be of various types and calibers and includes both firing range and service types and ammunition incorporating propelling technology, the company said.

"The partnership agreement provides the Dutch military with a reliable, long-term source of supply for top-quality ammunition, coupled with a streamlined procurement process. Rheinmetall said.

"This wide-ranging agreement further reinforces Rheinmetall's role as a leading supplier of large- and medium-caliber weapons and ammunition to NATO member states and other likeminded nations."

The estimated value of the new deal was not detailed. Neither was the estimated number of rounds and specific calibers. The company, however, said that in the last two years of the earlier seven-year agreement, ammunition sales by Rheinmetall to the Netherlands averaged about $33.2 million per year.
