Lockheed submits proposal for MDA contract

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- A final proposal revision in a contract bid to produce medium-range ballistic missile has been submitted by Lockheed Martin to the U.S. Missile Defense Agency.

The proposal responds to MDA's amendments to a Response for Proposal issued in June.

"Lockheed Martin is dedicated to developing reliable and affordable medium-range ballistic missile targets that will meet the Missile Defense Agency's requirements for tests of the nation's Ballistic Missile Defense System," said John Holly, vice president of Missile Defense Systems and deputy for Strategic and Missile Defense Systems, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Co.

"Our offer represents the next step in cost-efficient systems engineering that will maintain the quality required to produce and launch these next-generation ballistic missiles."

The contract is expected to be issued by MDA before the end of the year. In addition to production of target missiles, the winner of the award will provide integrated logistics support, including inventory storage and maintenance, pre- and post-mission analysis, launch preparation and execution and engineering services.
