PARIS, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Norway has given DCNS of France a follow-on contract for continued support of combat management systems on Norway's fast patrol boats.
The contract, from the Norwegian Defense Logistics Organization, is for four years. Its monetary value wasn't disclosed.
The combat management system is the Senit 2000. It's deployed on six Norwegian navy Skjold vessels and its communications and sensor suites are interoperable with systems used by other NATO naval forces.
"NDLO is extremely pleased to sign this support-contract which will form the basis for supporting the CMS on the Skjold class corvettes," said Commodore Geir Kilhus, chief of NDLO naval systems. "The contract is of outmost importance for NDLO's management of the corvettes in the years to come.
"The scope of this four-year contract is the frontrunner for lifetime support of the Skjold class weapon system."
Under the award, DCNS will provide through-life support and maintenance. It will also continue development of the system.
In addition to communications and sensor suites, the system features anti-ship missiles and a 76mm gun that can simultaneously engage several targets at once at ranges of more than 7 miles.
