Australia taps BAE for F-35 plans

RICHMOND, Australia, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Development of an operational model for integrating F-35 fighters into Australia's defense environment will be performed by BAE Systems.

BAE Systems Australia said the nine-month project was given it under the government's New Air Combat Capability Program.

Under the award, BAE Systems will work closely with the Australian military and NACC on an integration plan that outlines all requirements for F-35 Joint Strike Fighter JSF operations and sustainment.

"This contract will play a critical role in ensuring that (the Ministry of Defense), industry and our (Australia Defense Force) men and women are ready and prepared for a smooth transition when the JSF comes into service," said BAE Systems Australia's Director of Aerospace John Monaghan.

"Our team will work to define the processes and information that will be required to ensure that the aircraft achieves its maximum operational effectiveness in any deployed environment."
