ASHBURN, Va., Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Enhancements for handheld precision targeting devices are being provided to the U.S. Army by the U.S. subsidiary of Switzerland's Vectronix AG.
The HHPTD contract had been awarded to Vectronix Inc. last month, and as part of the program Vectronix will deliver an equal amount of STERNA precision target location systems, which acquire and maintain the true north azimuth in all operating conditions.
The HHPTD program, sponsored by the U.S. Rapid Equipping Force, is to give dismounted observers the ability and quickly and accurately locate targets for attack with precision munitions.
"The HHPTD program leverages Vectronix core competencies in optics, laser ranging and orientation," said Larry DeRoche Sr,. director of Sales at Vectronix Inc. "We are pleased to work with the U.S. Army to provide the best field proven technology to the U.S. warfighter."
Vectronix's delivery of the HHPTD systems will occur early next year.
Vectronix's parent company is a member of the French Sagem/Safran Technology Group.
