Navy orders wiring testing units

CARLSBAD, Calif., July 26 (UPI) -- A handheld unit to test for and isolate wiring faults on U.S. Navy aircraft has been ordered from AEA Technology Inc. and partner ITT Exelis.

The system is called the Hand-Held Aircraft Wiring Tester, which is based on AEA Technology's new E20/20 Step Time Domain Reflectometer technology and which will enable maintenance personnel to isolate a wiring fault within 1 inch with resolution to 0.5 inches.

"This is AEA Technology's first partnered project with ITT Exelis and we are thoroughly pleased with all government contract and logistics experience they supply," AEA said. "We look forward to working with them over the next five years."

AEA Technology, formerly known as Advanced Electronic Applications, said its E20/20 Step TDR can measure any type of coax, twisted pair, single pair wiring harnesses and cables. They have no dead zone on any range setting and are loaded with features to help evaluate cable parameters.
