NAMSA awards fire-fighting contract

PORTLAND, Ore., May 31 (UPI) -- The NATO agency that provides logistics services has selected a U.S. company to provide aerial fire-fighting services to Greece.

Under the award from the NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency, Erickson Air-Crane Inc. will provide the fire-fighting services for the 2012-14 firefighting seasons.

Erickson will receive $8.9 million per year for the use of its fire-fighting helicopters. It would also receive additional monies depending on the level of flight hour activity.

"We are very pleased to be a supplier to NAMSA and to assist them in protecting the people, property and natural resources of Greece from the dangers of fire, something we have done in partnership with the Hellenic Fire Brigade for more than 10 years," said Udo Rieder, the president and chief executive officer of the Oregon company.

Erickson Air-Crane said it has three heavy-lift Aircrane helicopters in Europe and they will be used for the contract.
