CAE, Brunei to open training center

MONTREAL, April 20 (UPI) -- A helicopter and aircraft training center is being established in Brunei Darussalam and will be in operation from 2014.

The center is a joint venture between CAE of Canada and Brunei's Ministry of Finance. CAE will own 60 percent of the multipurpose training center and the ministry the remainder.

"The CAE Brunei Multi-Purpose Training Centre will undoubtedly become a training center of excellence for the entire Southeast Asia region," said Martin Gagne, CAE's group president, Military Products, Training and Services.

"We are pleased and honored the government of Brunei has placed their trust and confidence in CAE to deliver a world-class training facility that will ultimately enhance safety, security, efficiency and productivity for the nation of Brunei."

The center will perform training services for Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawk helicopters, Sikorsky S-92 helicopters and Pilatus PC-7s, a fixed-wing aircraft.

The center will be near the Brunei International Airport and will feature five simulator bays, classrooms and additional infrastructure.

CAE, which has headquarters in Montreal, is a provider of modeling, simulation and training for civil aviation and defense.
