SOUTH BEND, Ind., March 29 (UPI) -- Vehicle production company AM General LLC is backing two separate vehicle candidates and proposals for the U.S. Army's Joint Light Tactical Vehicle program.
The first is for its Blast-Resistant Vehicle-Off Road light tactical vehicle, which the company developed independently and with its own funding. AM General said the BRV-O meets or exceeds the government's program evaluation criteria in areas such as protection, performance, payload, transportability, reliability and affordability.
BRV-O, with a crew capsule and modular armor already proven effective in government-supervised blast testing, is lightweight; fuel efficient; has a self-leveling suspension system; a C4ISR backbone with open-standard networked architecture and clustered super-computing power,
The second proposal AM General supports is from General Tactical Vehicles, the joint venture it formed in 2007 with General Dynamics Land Systems.
The U.S. military is expected to award three contracts for the engineering, manufacture and development phase of the JLTV program, in which more than 200 prototypes will be produced.
BAE Systems, with Northrop Grumman and Meritor Defense, is bidding for the work, as is Oshkosh Defense.
