Mexico orders trainer aircraft

WICHITA, Kan., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- The air force of Mexico has purchased six Hawker Beechcraft T-6C+ Texan II military trainer aircraft, the company announced.

The value of the sale was not disclosed, but Hawker Beechcraft said the first two aircraft will be delivered early this year and will replace the Mexican air force's aging PC-7 trainers.

Hawker Beechcraft said among the features of its T-6C+, an upgraded variant of the T-6, are a heads-up display for pilots, an up-front control panel and advanced cockpit avionics with a hands-on throttle and stick system.

"We look forward to providing the Mexican air force with the highly effective, ultra-reliable and low-maintenance Beechcraft T-6C+," said Jim Maslowski, president, HBDC. "We see this sale of six aircraft as just the beginning of a long and productive relationship with the FAM."

The company said T-6 aircraft are used by the U.S. Navy and Air Force, the Greek air force, the Israeli air force, the Iraqi air force and the Royal Moroccan Air Force.

The turboprop was first delivered to a military service in 2000.
