Bell, Turkey in contract talks

FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Bell Helicopter and the Turkish National Police are entering negotiations over the possible purchase of 15 of the company's 429 helicopters.

"This selection [for negotiations] represents the culmination of the efforts of a dedicated team at Bell Helicopter in collaboration with our independent representative, Saran Group, Inc., located in Turkey," said Larry Roberts, senior vice president for Bell Helicopter's Commercial Business.

"This is a significant win in the European market for Bell Helicopter. It reflects our commitment and investment in providing the right products for our customers as well as support, training and aftermarket in the region."

The Bell 429 is a twin-engine aircraft with Korean Aerospace Industries, using Bell's 427. It has a speed of 155 knots, a range of 390 nautical miles and a service ceiling of 20,000 feet. In addition to a law enforcement configuration, it also can be tailored for medical evacuation and passenger transport use.

Bell reported its selection for final negotiations to provide 15 helicopters – with an option for five additional aircraft -- follows its selection from a number of other companies bidding on the contract but additional details were not disclosed.
