Second AEW&C plane for South Korea

GIMHAE, South Korea, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- The South Korean air force took delivery from Boeing this week of a Peace Eye 737 Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft.

The Peace Eye aircraft is the second from Boeing for the South Korean air force and the first modified to South Korean AEW&C configuration by Korea Aerospace Industries at its facility in Sacheon.

"The quality of KAI's work has been outstanding," said Randy Price, Peace Eye program manager for Boeing. "Their commitment to excellence, their focus and their technical expertise were critical to the achievement of this major milestone."

Boeing's Peace Eye is based on the Boeing on the 737-700 commercial airplane. It provides airborne-battle-management capability with advanced multi-role electronically scanned radar.

Among its features are 10 state-of-the-art mission crew consoles that can simultaneously track airborne and maritime targets.

Boeing said KAT is modifying two other aircraft for delivery next year.

Boeing's Peace Eye program for South Korea includes four aircraft, crew training support and system maintenance.
