EDINBURGH, Scotland, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Selex Galileo in Scotland will upgrade the layers display and control unit of the British military's L118 light artillery gun under a $6.69 million contract.
The LDCU is part of the LINAPS system, a gun-mounted navigation, aiming and weapon management system for fast and accurate artillery deployment.
"The selection of our LCDU by the Ministry of Defense is a source of pride for our whole team," Alastair Morrison, senior vice president, Radar and Advanced Targeting said. "The (British artillery) is on the front line every day and we are honored that our capability is helping support the regiment in their vital role."
The upgrade involves replacing existing LINAPS man-machine interface with a touch-sensitive, electro-luminescent display and more powerful processing for fire control and ballistic calculations. Also included will be a capability to interface with additional sensors.
Selex Galileo said other militaries using the system include Canada, Thailand and Malaysia.
