MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- The U.S. Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization is to receive technology and systems engineering support from Virginia company SAIC.
The contract -- with a ceiling value of $900 million for multiple award winners -- was given by the U.S. General Services Administration Federal Systems Integration and Management Center.
The services will be performed for JIEDDO's Counter IED Operations/Intelligence Integration Center.
The indefinite-delivery/indefinite quantity contract has a two-year base period of performance and three one-year options.
"We look forward to providing mission-critical services in support of the JIEDDO-COIC as it continues to function as a disruptive change agent, energizing the warfighter's ability to gain access to the information needed to create vital, common operating pictures for our troops in harm's way," said John Thomas, senior vice president and business unit general manager at Science Applications International Corp.
JIEDDO provides counter-IED capability in support of combatant commanders to enable the defeat of IEDs by rapidly developing innovative equipment and technology, training troops and providing them with expertise.
Under the contract, SAIC will provide technology and systems engineering services as required in areas including the development, operation and maintenance of IT and communications infrastructure. SAIC will also assist the COIC in performing critical and time sensitive analytical, logistics, technical and engineering tasks and help promote the continuous development of solutions to combat enemy IED threats.
SAIC is one of four contractors that will compete for task orders under the contract.
