PARSIPPANY, N.J., May 10 (UPI) -- The Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition group of DRS Technologies is providing U.S. Army with advanced thermal weapon sights.
The follow-on order is worth $68.2 million and brings the total of orders under a 2007 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity to more than $460 million.
The order of the infrared-detecting devices includes light-, medium- and heavy-weapon thermal sights from the DRS Thermal Weapon Sights II family of systems.
RSTA has manufactured and delivered more than 50,000 thermal weapon sights since 2004.
DRS thermal weapon sights employ 25-micron un-cooled vanadium oxide detectors, which enable troops to view the battlefield and pinpoint targets clearly through smoke, dust, haze, light fog and darkness.
