Northrop to enhance classified networks

MCLEAN, Va., March 22 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman has won a follow-on task order to operate, maintain and enhance classified networks for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The award from the U.S. General Services Administration has a potential value of $1.1 billion.

"Fundamental to achieving the Department of Homeland Security's mission of communicating effectively within the department and among its partners around the nation is the capability to share critical national security information at the appropriate level of classification to initiate immediate action," said Jim Myers, vice president and general manager for Northrop Grumman's Civil Systems Division.

"Our cutting-edge solution and industry-leading team will incorporate green IT best practices to benefit the department and support the federal Chief Information Officer Council's Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative through a reduced energy and data center footprint."

The Enterprise Networked Services Support task order, which allows secure information sharing among federal government agencies and first responders, is a single award under the Alliant indefinite-delivery/ indefinite-quantity contract. Work will be conducted over a one-year base period with six one-year option periods.

As part of the task order, Northrop will develop, deploy and operate a converged network and IT infrastructure that will provide classified data, voice and video services to more than 15,000 fixed and mobile users nationwide.

Services will be delivered using a virtual private cloud-based model for better computing efficiency and IT security.
