IAI introduces new range finder

KADIMA, Israel, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- A new lightweight and compact laser range finder/designator for small electro-optical systems has been unveiled by Israel Aerospace Industries.

Defense Update, an Israeli publication, said the DART 45 offers a 45 millijoule, very-low divergence laser designator as well as an eye-safe range finder that enables high performance.

The company said the product's design is based on diode-pumped, advanced Nd:YAG laser, compatible with all U.S. and NATO laser-guided munitions. Unique characteristics, including low-power requirements, make it an excellent solution for the rising market of 6-8 inch EO targeting payloads for unmanned aerial vehicles, static and ground vehicle sights and for targeting and designating hand-held systems, the company was quoted as saying.

The DART 45 is being displayed at the Aero India exhibition.

IAI said several units of the new system have already been integrated into MiniPOP-D (Designator) Electro-Optical naval payloads for an export customer and into an IAI/TAMAM's new ground targeting and designating system.
