Denmark seeks MH-60R Seahawks

WASHINGTON, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Denmark is eyeing the purchase of 12 MH-60R Seahawk Multi-Mission Helicopters under the Foreign Military Sales program.

The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, in its notification to Congress, said the sale of the helicopters, associated parts, equipment and logistical support for them is worth about $2 billion.

"This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a NATO ally which has been, and continues to be, an important force for political and economic stability in Europe," it said.

It said the helicopters would improve Denmark's anti-submarine and surface warfare capability and provide an improved search-and-rescue and anti-ship surveillance capability and ability to carry out international commitments.

The entire package would include 12 aircraft, 27 T-700 GE 401C engines, communication equipment, support equipment, spare and repair parts, tools and test equipment, technical data and publications, personnel training and training equipment, U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics support.

The prime contractors would be Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. in Stratford, Conn.; Lockheed Martin in Owego, N.Y.; General Electric in Lynn, Mass.; and the Raytheon Corp. in Portsmouth, R.I.
