BAE plans flight training contract bid

WARTON, England, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- BAE Systems has signed exclusive agreements with other firms to bid for fixed-wing flight training services to the British air force.

The BAE team will include Gama Group Ltd., Babcock Aerospace Ltd. and Pilatus Aircraft Ltd.

"In selecting Gama, Babcock and Pilatus we believe we have secured the best available capabilities and platforms to meet this complex and important requirement," Martin Rushton, BAE Systems' managing director for the air sector training business said. "As a company we already work in partnership with our U.K. and global customers to deliver a comprehensive range of platform availability services for a range of air, land and sea products.

'Working with our partners we are able to integrate modern and efficient training aircraft systems and commit to a through-life maintenance and service solution through our readiness and sustainment capabilities.

"BAE Systems will deliver an integrated, safe and harmonized system to meet the requirements and capacity challenges of Ascent Flight Training and the U.K. (Ministry of Defense)," he said.

BAE Systems will lead, on behalf of its partners, the provision of a bid to Ascent Flight Training to be the Fixed Wing Aircraft Service Provider for the U.K. Military Flying Training System program for a variety of platforms and systems to train aircrew from the British navy, army and air force.

BAE Systems said it is working with its partners to submit a proposal to Ascent in January of next year.
