WEST BERLIN, N.J., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- The U.S. Domestic Nuclear Detection Office has awarded Dynasil Corp. of America new funding to continue development of nuclear radiation detector materials.
Dynasil says its Radiation Monitoring Devices Inc. research unit received the award. Under the $2.5 million deal, RMD will continue its development of the company's lightweight scintillator crystals as a potential next-generation radioactive materials detection technology.
The contract, which follows a $5.6 million grant from the U.S. Homeland Security Department, is part of an ongoing effort to establish a high performance nuclear radiation detection capability.
"Homeland Security has been an excellent partner for the research-and-development work on these materials and this additional funding enables us to take it to the next stage, which could save lives by providing better tools to detect and intercept potentially devastating weapons," Craig Dunham, Dynasil president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
