Analogic, Smiths Detection sign agreement

PEABODY, Mass., Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Smiths Detection and U.S. company Analogic Corp. have partnered to jointly develop new threat detection technologies to address evolving airport security needs.

Analogic and Smiths Detection signed a deal to develop new explosive detection systems that can be used to meet aviation security standards including new mandates at European airports.

Analogic says as part of the two-year agreement it will develop imaging subsystem technologies for a Smiths Detection-engineered checked baggage threat identification system.

"We are pleased to announce our new relationship with Smiths Detection, a recognized leader in the aviation security field," Jim Green, Analogic president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"This agreement reflects our ability to provide next- generation technologies that address the evolving terrorist threats, enhancing security for air travelers worldwide."
