TUCSON, March 20 (UPI) -- Raytheon has been contracted by the U.S. Navy to manufacture and deliver its network-enabled Joint Standoff Weapon C-1 systems.
Under the $106 million deal, U.S. company Raytheon will produce more than 350 of its next-generation JSOW C-1 air-to-ground weapons for the Navy.
The JSOW, integrated with the F/A-18 Hornet and several blocks of the F-16 Falcon fighter aircraft, has a global positioning system and an inertial navigation system that that enhances target accuracy.
"With this contract award, the first network-enabled weapons in the world will be produced to meet war-fighter requirements," Cmdr. Andrew Kessler, JSOW deputy program manager in the U.S. Navy's Precision Strike Weapons program office, said in a statement.
"The JSOW C-1 will maintain all the capabilities of the proven JSOW C configuration while bringing the flexibility to engage time-sensitive maritime targets."
