OTTAWA, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- General Dynamics Canada has won a modernization contract for the Canadian navy's Halifax-class frigates.
The company said in a statement this week that it had been "selected by the Department of National Defense as one of only three contractors to be allowed to bid on the Canadian navy’s $1.1 billion Halifax Class Modernization -- HCM -- Combat Systems Integration (CSI) program."
"Acting as the prime contractor, General Dynamics Canada is heading the 'CSI Halifax Team' comprising leading defense industry suppliers Thales Nederland, Thales Canada, and General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems," the company said.
"The HCM/CSI program will modernize the mission systems for the 12 Halifax-class frigates and significantly enhance the capability of the frigates’ command and control systems, radars, tactical data links, electronic support measures and other operational mission support systems. The program also requires the successful bidder to provide systems engineering and in-service support for the modernized mission systems in all 12 frigates. The formal request for proposal is expected to be issued this fall," General Dynamics Canada said.

General Dynamics Canada said it has a staff of more than 2,200 in Ottawa, Halifax, Calgary and Victoria.
