WASHINGTON, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Contributors to Jihadi Internet forums have been attacking the first ever Muslim elected to the U.S. Congress, according to media reports.
The New York Daily News reported at the weekend that Congressman-elect Keith Ellison of Minnesota, who will in January become the first member of the House of Representatives to take the oath of office with his hand on the Quran, has been subjected to abuse and vitriol from posters on two Web forums for Islamic extremists.
One posting called him "the first Jewish Muslim that goes to Congress," and others derided his election as "a comedy," and him as a "fool," reported the paper.
"He is one of them, [a] one-way ticket to Hell," the paper quoted one contributor as saying.
"My God, if you have 1 billion Muslims like him, we shall [continue to] fight you as the Muslim fights the infidel," said another.
Ellison, an African-American convert to Islam, who will be the state's first black congressman, "campaigned on social issues, not religion," the paper said.
The attacks appeared on two password-protected Web sites monitored by the non-profit SITE Institute, which watches and translates Jihadi writings on the Web, according to the paper.
One of the forums, al-Hesbah, is thought linked to al-Qaida.
