WASHINGTON, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- The Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte has appointed a new head of public affairs for his office.
An announcement to staff in Negroponte's office Wednesday named Chad Kolton, a former White House Office of Management and Budget press officer as director of public affairs, replacing Judith Emmel.
One administration official, who asked not to be named, said Emmel -- who was detailed to the office from the National Security Agency where she had worked for then-director Gen. Michael Hayden -- had left for a staff position with the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, a White House blue-ribbon committee that oversees the work of U.S. spy agencies.
Hayden came to Negroponte's office as his deputy last year, but left earlier this year to become director of the CIA.
The administration official said Kolton would probably start work "within the next few weeks."
Kolton, who earlier worked in the public affairs office at the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and is currently a senior vice president at communications consultancy Cassidy and Associates, did not return phone or email messages.
