LONDON, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- A British court Thursday approved extradition to the United States of an al-Qaida terror suspect accused of attempting to set up a terror training camp in Oregon.

District Judge Timothy Workman, sitting at Bow Street Magistrate's Court in London, said the United States had given assurances that Haroon Rashid Aswat would be afforded full legal rights and protections and would not be tried by a military court or commission.

Aswat, who grew up in West Yorkshire, was arrested in Zambia last year. His lawyers argued that evidence against him in the United States came from another suspect in U.S. custody and had been obtained under duress.

Aswat's lawyers indicated they intended to appeal the ruling to the High Court, while the judge said he intended to refer the case to Home Secretary Charles Clarke for additional action.
