Oil is knee-high in California spill

Pipeline company unknown at time of incident's report.

LOS ANGELES, May 15 (UPI) -- Oil that spilled from a pipeline onto a roadway in Los Angeles is knee-high in some areas, the city's fire department said Thursday.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said a 20-inch pipeline broke open and spilled about 1,190 barrels -- or roughly 50,000 gallons -- onto the streets.

"Oil is knee high in some areas," LAFD said in a statement. "A handful of commercial businesses are affected."
