RWE DEA lauds natural gas success in Egypt

CAIRO, March 13 (UPI) -- The Egyptian subsidiary of German energy company RWE Dea said Thursday it was making important progress on developing the North African country's gas reserves.

RWE Dea Egypt said it was able to confirm positive results from an appraisal well in the North West Khilala field onshore in the Egyptian Nile Delta.

The company said it tested the flow rate from the well at about 1.5 million cubic feet per day, which it said was in line with its expectations.

Maximilian Fellner, general manager of the Egyptian subsidiary, said in a statement Thursday the appraisal well has "confirmed and further enhanced our understanding" of the reserve potential in the area.

RWE Dea has 10 onshore and offshore properties in Egypt.

Last week, Emirati energy company Dana Gas said it was overhauling its el-Wastani natural gas plant in Egypt to increase its production by 25 percent. The company in February signed agreements with the Egyptian government to explore for natural resources in eastern Nile Delta waters, its first such deal.
