PARIS, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- French energy services contractor Technip announced it secured two contracts to help its Brazilian counterpart Petrobras exploit ultra-deep waters.
Technip was awarded two contracts that, combined, call for the delivery of more than 60 miles of flexible pipelines to help the Brazilian company known formally as Petroleo Brasileiro develop the Sapinhoa Norte field and parts of the Lula field.
Both reserves areas lie beneath a thick layer of salt in ultra deep waters off the coast of Brazil in the Santos Basin.
"Developing a pre-salt field means bigger challenges and requires strong innovation," Frederic Delormel, a vice president in charge of regional developments for Technip, said in a statement Monday. "At Technip, we strive to ensure this technological excellence and continually improve high reliability, generating value for the energy industry."
Production from Technip begins in the first quarter of 2014.
There was no statement from Petrobras. No value for the contracts was offered by Technip.
